Wayne COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic Moving To Town Hall
The move comes as demand for the COVID-19 vaccine decreases. As of Friday, 55 percent of township residents have received at least one dose.
WAYNE, NJ — The COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the Macy's building in Preakness Shopping Center will soon shutter, with operations moving to Town Hall, Mayor Christopher Vergano announced.
The reasoning is simple: as more people get vaccinated, the demand for inoculations has decreased, meaning the township needs less space to operate.
As of May 6, Vergano reported that 11,728 total doses were administered at the township-run clinic, "a very good thing for the township," he added.

A clinic was hosted at Macy's on May 7 for second dose appointments. On Wednesday, appointments shifted to Health Room 2 at Town Hall. Town Hall will host appointments again next Wednesday, before the final clinic at Macy's on May 26, Vergano said.
Appointments are preferred moving forward, but the township is also accepting walk-ins. With decreased demand, Vergano also said appointments are available to New Jersey residents outside of Wayne and Pompton Lakes.

"The lines we have are very minimal, you should be in and out in 15-20 minutes," Vergano said. "That's our goal and that's what we've been accomplishing."
Vaccination numbers are still climbing in Wayne, with the state reporting through the COVID-19 database that 67 percent of residents 18 and up have been vaccinated, and 85 percent of people 65 and up receiving at least one dose.
COVID-19 cases are shrinking as well "a good sign," Vergano said.
The township reported 554 cases in April, the lowest total since November 2020, and down from 845 cases in March.
