Wayne 'Fortunate To Have' Gyro Grill
From helping frontline workers to serving "great food," customers say Gyro Grill was a bright spot in a 2020 filled with dread.

WAYNE, NJ — In a year when businesses lost revenue streams, altered services to survive and, in the worst of cases, closed for good, Wayne residents feel lucky to have one local restaurant still standing: Gyro Grill.
Throughout the duration of the coronavirus pandemic, take-out, and, eventually, outdoor dining, brought a sense of normalcy to a year that was anything but.
For Gyro Grill, the quality of food is just one reason Patch readers believe the local staple should be considered a business of the year (and a go-to stop for your next falafel sandwich).

William Lawrence, a customer of the restaurant, put it simply.
"Great food," he said.

But some other customers called attention to the efforts of the business ownership outside of serving up food.
"Schlomo, the owner, is a very thoughtful human. He always donates to those in need, to local fundraisers and to our community. We are fortunate to have such a caring business in our town," said Lisha Piszczatoski, a customer.
Part of those thoughtful instances of giving came during the pandemic, according to Mickie Binder Stricker, also a customer, who said the business "has been most generous in helping frontline workers."
Patch readers nominated a Local Businesses of the Year. The local businesses included retail stores, restaurants, hardware shops, dry cleaners, plumbers, car mechanics, salons and more.
Patch will feature nominated businesses in December.
