WAYNE, NJ — Jacqueline and Michael Silva-Netto served their community as nurses throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, three North Jersey organizations have found a way to repay the couple for putting themselves at risk to help others.

Rebuilding Together North Jersey (RTNJ), along with GAF Roofing and Carpenter's Touch Construction, have created the "Roofs for Heroes" project as a way to give back to those who offered help during the pandemic. The project offers front-line workers a total roof replacement, and the Silva-Netto family recently received theirs.

Both nurses have juggled hectic work schedules with raising children, switching off their days and nights to make sure one of them is home. Jacqueline has worked with pediatric COVID-19 patients for Valley Hospital since the beginning of the pandemic, and Michael is a nurse with Atlantic Health Systems, according to a news release.

With this new roof, Michael Silva-Netto believes they've now added a layer of support for their family.

"Giving us the opportunity to protect our family and reinforce our home for the years to come means so much to us," he said.

But for the three organizations involved, helping the family was the obvious choice.

"There is no better feeling than giving back to Our Heroes! Jackie & Mike are both RN Nurses, who have worked crazy hours during the Covid -19 Pandemic. We Partnered with GAF & Rebuilding Together NJ to give these Heroes a New Free GAF Roof," wrote Carpenters Touch, in an Instagram post.

RTNJ and GAF hope this is the first of a number of projects, as they are looking to expand the program to more homeowners in the community.
