3 People Killed In Wayne House Fire: What We Know

Multiple agencies are investigating a house fire, and possible explosion, that killed three people on Monday evening in Wayne.

WAYNE, NJ — Three people died in a house fire in Wayne on Monday night, and an investigation into what caused it continued into Thursday evening.

Fire personnel — which included three companies from Wayne — responded to the fire on Jackson Avenue at 6:14 p.m. Monday, and the road was closed temporarily while crews worked to get the fire under control, according to Wayne police and the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation led by the Prosecutor's Office is ongoing, and Pix11 reported that agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Newark office, and the New Jersey State Fire Marshal's Office, were at the scene on Tuesday.

A representative from the ATF didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

The identities of the deceased, all adults, have yet to be announced by the Prosecutor's Office, who released a brief statement Tuesday.

However, Northjersey.com and Pix11 report that the dead include a Wayne man, his daughter and her partner, citing neighbors and relatives. Two others who lived in the home were out of the country, Pix11 reported.

Wayne police announced they were investigating the fire Monday night. Wayne Fire Company #5, as well as members of companies #3 and #4, responded to the scene.

Neighbors told both Pix11 and Northjersey.com that they heard an explosion shortly before fire officials arrived.

Prosecutor's Office officials are seeking additional information about the fire, and are directing people to their tip line, 1-877-370-PCPO, and email, tips@passaiccountynj.org.
