Wayne's Brendan Monaghan Joins Rutgers Baseball Coaching Staff

Monaghan played 3 seasons of single-A baseball for the Baltimore Orioles' affiliate, the Bluefield Orioles.

WAYNE, NJ — Brendan Monaghan, a township native and former professional baseball player, was hired as an assistant coach of the Rutgers University baseball team recently.

Monaghan, 34, played for three seasons in the Baltimore Orioles rookie ball and minor league affiliates, the Bluefield Orioles, and the Delmarva Shorebirds, respectively. He was named an All-Star with the Long Island Ducks in the independent Atlantic League.

Monaghan will work with pitchers and catchers. He will also coordinate the team's recruiting efforts.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to come home to New Jersey and work for Rutgers University," Monaghan said in a news release. "The Big Ten Conference makes for a challenging lineup of opponents and I can't wait to get to work to prepare players for the season."

Monaghan is an alumnus of St. John's University in Queens. He has been a successful coach in his previous collegiate jobs.

Monaghan spent the previous three seasons as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Bryant University in Rhode Island. The program at nine All-Northeast Conference pitchers during his tenure.

Previously, he was a pitching coach at George Washington University where closer Eddie Muhl was named to the All-East second team, and helped guide UMass Lowell to 37 wins in their first two seasons at the NCAA Division I level of competition.

Monaghan also spent three years as a coach at St. John's University, his alma mater, and helped them reach the NCAA tournament twice.
