YMCA Invites Families Summer Camp Info Session this Tuesday
The time for summer camp planning is now! YMCA of Greater Bergen County will host sessions Jan. 29, Feb. 26, March 26, April 30, and May 2
Families are invited to the YMCA of Greater Bergen County on Jan. 29 to learn about sleepaway and day camp programs that have been getting children and teens into the great outdoors for 90 years.
“Our camps are traditional, back-to-basic summer experiences,” YMCA Day Camp Director Mary Sullivan said.
The YMCA has hosted summer camps on Lake Kanawauke in scenic Harriman State Park — the second-largest park in New York State’s park system — since 1929. The YMCA runs three back-to-basics day camps and a sleepover camp, as well as counselor-in-training (CIT) programs:

- Day Camp Kahagon, for children entering kindergarten and first grade
- Day Camp Oratam, for children entering second through seventh grades
- TeenVentures Day Camp, for campers entering grades eight through 10
- Camp Michikamau, sleepaway camp for children entering third through tenth grades
- Counselor-in-Training (CIT), for 16- and 17-year-olds
Campers are bused to Harriman State Park, located 45 minutes from Hackensack. Archery, arts and crafts, canoeing, fishing, hiking, nature studies, paddle boating, team challenges, sports, games and swimming are among the many activities children may take part in.
All YMCA of Greater Bergen County camps are accredited by the American Camp Association and provide a fun, safe, enriching environment where children build self-esteem, confidence and social skills, and make lasting friendships and memories. Child care before and after camp is available for day campers.

One-hour information sessions will be held at 7 p.m. at the YMCA, 360 Main St. in Hackensack on Jan. 29, Feb. 26, March 26, April 30, and May 21. For more information, visit www.ymcagbc.org or call 201-487-6600.
