WAYNE, NJ — Over 6,000 people in Wayne Township remain without power as of Thursday afternoon.

Jersey Central Power & Light reports 2,158 of their customers affected as of 12:26 p.m., while PSE&G reports an additional 4,092 without power as of 12:30 p.m.

However, the service providers are beginning to give a first look into when they expect power to be restored.

On Thursday, Mayor Christopher Vergano reported that both companies were in town working on outage issues during a video update.

In a Thursday statement, PSE&G reported the company has restored power to 435,000 customers and has about 140,000 customers still without power.

This includes three of the town's five nursing homes which lost power during the Tuesday storm, Vergano said.

The current expectation, the company said, is to have power restored to at least 85 percent of the remaining customers by Friday evening. However, there may be exceptions.

"Some difficult restorations may continue through the weekend — possibly into Monday," the company said.

According to the company, 3,300 employees have been working across the state to restore power, which includes tree crews and line workers from 15 states and Canada.

PSE&G has 19,235 customers in Wayne, according to company numbers.

Jersey Central, with 2,930 customers in the township, estimates that power will be restored to their customers by 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. However, officials clarified that some customers could see their service return earlier.

According to the township, the Wayne Animal Shelter phone lines and Internet services have been unavailable since Wednesday. The township has posted a new phone number, 973-694-9295, to call if looking to get in touch with the shelter.
