Fifth District Collect Hundreds of Items For Homewarming Drive

NJ's Fifth Legislative District and Volunteers of America Delaware Valley gave back to the community with a Homewarming Kit Drive.

Senator Nilsa Cruz-Perez, Assemblyman Bill Spearman and Assemblyman Bill Moen of New Jersey's Fifth Legislative District recently teamed up with Volunteers of America Delaware Valley (VOADV) to give back to the community by gathering donations of Homewarming Kits. Thanks to the generosity of members of the community, Senator Cruz-Perez, Assemblyman Spearman and Assemblyman Moen were able to donate an estimated 130 items to VOADV.

The donation drop-off was held at the Audubon Borough District Office on Saturday, February 21. The donations were comprised of items that can make up a Homewarming Kit for VOADV’s clients. Homewarming Kits contain all the first-time apartment essentials for VOADV clients that are moving into permanent housing.

“Every house deserves to feel like a home – and our Homewarming Kits ensure just that for our clients,” said Dan Lombardo, President and CEO of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley. “Each day we are working to address the risks of homelessness, and this program provides our clients entering the exciting next chapter in their lives with something useful to enhance their success. Our ongoing partnerships with community leaders, such as Senator Cruz-Perez, Assemblyman Moen and Assemblyman Spearman, are valued. We thank them for their generosity and their efforts to make a difference in the lives of others.”

“Giving back to our community during these troubling times is a privilege,” said Senator Nilsa Cruz-Perez. “As a Legislator, it is imperative that we extend a helping hand to families in need, and I would like to thank VOADV for their partnership and commitment to helping those in need of assistance.”

“While the pandemic has made it challenging for everyone to support our community organizations, I commend this group for finding an innovative way to give back to people in need.” said Assemblyman Bill Spearman. “Whether we are assisting veterans who experienced homelessness or individuals that are re-entering their community after being incarcerated, I am grateful to be a part of this.”

“While the year anniversary of the COVID19 pandemic is not one to be celebrated, we can celebrate that there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” said Assemblyman Bill Moen. “In the meantime, we need to ensure that the individuals in our community who are struggling receive help.”

Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is a local affiliate of the national, non-profit organization, Volunteers of America, and provides essential services to our community’s most vulnerable individuals. Each year, VOADV serves more than 13,000 individuals throughout the central and southern New Jersey and Philadelphia region and operates more than 40 high quality, outcome-driven assistance programs – from homelessness, reentry, veterans assistance and affordable housing services to specialized programs for individuals with addiction, victims of human trafficking, traumatic brain injury and intellectual disabilities.
