Free Pets: Gloucester County Will Clear The Shelters Aug. 17

The Gloucester County Animal Shelter will waive adoption fees for animals at the shelter on Saturday, Aug. 17.

The Gloucester County Animal Shelter will waive adoption fees on all animals in the shelter during its fourth annual Clear the Shelters event on Saturday, Aug. 17, county officials announced.

“Last year we were able to find 22 pets new homes during the Clear the Shelters initiative,” Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said. “By waiving fees, the county is making pets available to loving homes that are looking for that perfect pet that may not have been able to afford them before.”

There are currently 35 cats, 12 dogs, two rabbits and a guinea pig available for adoption at the Gloucester County Animal Shelter, according to Gloucester County Freeholder Deputy Director Frank J. DiMarco.

“Clear the Shelters helped us adopt out ten dogs and twelve cats during in one day,” said DiMarco, who is the liaison to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter. “Shelter populations become larger in the summertime due to kitten and puppy births and finding shelter dogs and cats quality homes is paramount. The Clear the Shelters initiative has been successful, and we look forward to participating again this year.”

Clear the Shelters is a nationwide initiative that was started by NBC and Telemundo as a way to offer low cost or completely waived fees in order to help local families find the perfect pet for them at an affordable cost, or no cost at all. In its four years running, this initiative has successfully found forever homes for around 150,000 shelter animals.
