Gift Bag Pickup For Gloucester County Seniors In Lieu Of Picnic

The Gloucester County Senior Picnic was canceled due to the coronavirus, but gift bags are still available for pickup.

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ — While the coronavirus pandemic means Gloucester County seniors can’t get together for their annual picnic this year, the county is still setting them up with special gift bags.

Due to guidelines limits on outdoor gatherings and efforts to protect the senior population, the Gloucester County Department of Health and Division of Senior Services has coordinated a special gift bag pick-up at three of its meal sites on Wednesday.

The gift bags will include a $10 ShopRite gift card, snacks, giveaways and resources for seniors in Gloucester County. Times and locations for pickup include:

Thorofare Firehall
9 a.m. — 10 a.m.
1 Firehouse Lane
Thorofare. NJ 08086

Mantua Community Center
10:30 a.m. — 11:30 a.m.
111 East Mercer Ave.
Mantua, NJ 08051

Pfieffer Center
12 p.m. — 1p.m.
301 Blue Bell St.
Williamstown, NJ 08094

"The Senior Picnic is always a great event,” Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said. “We’ll miss our picnic this year, but we wanted to make sure our seniors know how much we appreciate them.”

The distribution is open to residents 60 years and older. Social distancing and proper face coverings are required for residents picking up their gift bag. Seniors will receive one gift bag per ticket. You must have a ticket to receive a bag.

Seniors interested in receiving a gift bag can call the Division of Senior Services to check availability and arrange ticket pick-up.

"Our staff services thousands of seniors a year and this is another way to give back to them while keeping our seniors safe,” Gloucester County Freeholder Jim Jefferson, liaison to the Division of Senior Services, said.
