GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ — Kittens at the Gloucester County Animal Shelter are now available for buy one, get one free deals, the shelter announced. There are also reduced adoption fees for all animals at the shelter.

Animals 6 years old and younger will have their adoption fees reduced to $35. Dogs and cats 6 years and older will have their adoption fees completely waived. There are currently 36 cats and five dogs available for adoption.

“We love connecting our animals to loving homes, and offering these discounts will get them with their forever homes without the burden of costly adoption fees,” Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said.

“Adoption from the Gloucester County Animal Shelter is typically much less expensive than adopting from a private source,” Freeholder Deputy Director Frank J. DiMarco, liaison to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter, said. “During the summer the shelter always sees an increase in cats and kittens, and this fee reduction could help motivate people who are looking to adopt."

The shelter is also offering the Pet Food Pantry to help assist any Gloucester County pet owner struggling to feed their pets due to the coronavirus pandemic. Pet owners can visit the Pet Food Pantry to pick up pet food for their dogs and cats.

Public access to the animal shelter remains limited due to the coronavirus pandemic. The shelter will now be open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., while adoption hours are by appointment only Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.

Throughout the pandemic, Gloucester County residents have found animals to welcome into their families and find a forever home.

One adoptive parent shared their “pup-date” saying, "Thank you so much for helping me find my best friend! Zoey is the sweetest most loving girl. She gets the zoomies all the time and loves her daily walks, sometimes two a day if the weather is nice. She’s such an active pup that just found a new love for hiking. She has grown so far, and I am so grateful to have gotten the help from Gloucester County Animal Shelter in finding my new best friend. Zoey says thank you!”

Zoey was adopted in the beginning of March and has been acclimating to her new life with her forever home.
