Gloucester County Memorial Day Ceremony Set For May 30
Gloucester County's annual Memorial Day Ceremony is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 30.
GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ — Gloucester County’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 30, county officials announced.
Wreaths will be placed to honor fallen comrades during the hour-long ceremony that will conclude with a rifle salute and TAPS. After the program is over, families will be given a carnation to lie upon the graves of their loved one.
“We invite everyone to come and safely pay respect to our servicemen and women who have given so much for our country on Memorial Day,” Gloucester County Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger said. “It is a day of heroes.”

The ceremony begins two days earlier when volunteers gather to mark the graves of the veterans interred in at the cemetery at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 28.
Anyone who wants to help place flags can meet at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. This year’s lead group is Cub Pack #1721, WHFD Troop 151, and Venturing Crew 21.

“Marking the graves of those who served our country is the most fitting way to start the Memorial Day weekend,” Gloucester County Commissioner Dan Christy, liaison to Veterans Affairs, said. This year we will be placing over 3,000 American Flags.”
The ceremony is open to everyone, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and arrive early. Social distancing and mask mandates will be in effect. The ceremony is held rain or shine.
Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 240 South Tuckahoe Road, Monroe Township. Parking will be available onsite.
