Gloucester County Pickleball Event Postponed Due To Forecast

"Picklenic," a special event for pickleball players in Gloucester County, has been postponed one week due to forecasted inclement weather.

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ — “Picklenic,” a special event for pickleball players that was to have taken place in Gloucester County on Saturday, has been postponed one week due to inclement weather in the forecast.

Pickelnic will now be held on Saturday, May 22, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at James G. Atkinson Park, 138 Bethel Mill Rd., Sewell, NJ 08080, Gloucester County officials announced on Friday.

The weather forecast calls for the possibility of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday. Showers are expected to continue on Sunday and Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

"Pickleball is taking over as the fasting growing sport in America. Atkinson Park is home to six gorgeous pickleball courts, and they have been put to great use since we unveiled them," Gloucester County Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger said.

Tennis courts will be converted into additional pickleball courts. There will be 14 courts available and attendees are encouraged to sign up on the meet-up app: https://www.meetup.com/Gloucester-Township-Pickleball-Meetup/events/277342565.

"This event is a way for us to continue to foster the great community that has come from opening Pickleball courts at Atkinson Park," Gloucester County Commissioner Jim Lavender said. "We encourage individuals interested in learning to play pickleball to stop by and watch the games. Everyone is very helpful and willing to teach new players."

There will be feature prizes, giveaways, trophies for winners and ice cream for all. The schedule is as follows:

9 a.m.– 11:30 a.m.

Open Play

Rally Scoring

First to 15 wins

Sweet or Sour Pickle (Winner or Loser) Buckets

11:30 a.m.– 12:30 p.m.

Picklenic in the Park -Bring your own lunch and drinks.

Soft Serve Ice Cream provided

12:30 p.m.

Mystery Mixed Troubles Tourney - Names will be pulled out of a hat to determine mixed partners.
