New Economic Development Center Opens In Gloucester County

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NJ — The Economic Development Center is now open on the campus of Rowan College of South Jersey in Gloucester County, officials announced.

“This new building is the result of many strong partnerships across Gloucester County and will continue to provide opportunities to grow together,” Gloucester County Freeholder Robert M. Damminger said.

Construction on the one-story, 15,633 square-foot Economic Development Center began in September 2019. It is located at 1480 Tanyard Road, Suite B, in Sewell.

The new center will house the Gloucester County Department of Economic Development, the Gloucester County Workforce Development Board, the American Job Center of Gloucester County and the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce.

“Bringing our college, economic development office, workforce training programs and the chamber of commerce together under one roof is an extraordinary way to continue to move Gloucester County forward,” Freeholder Heather Simmons, liaison to the Gloucester County Department of Economic Development, said.

Simmons says the Gloucester County Department of Economic Development and the Workforce Development Board are here to expand and attract quality businesses by developing an educated and trained workforce, thus providing employment opportunities for its citizens.

The Workforce Development Board will also be on site to help job seekers find work while helping businesses and industry in job growth. Offering free employment seeking services that include career and vocational counseling, job related training, and veteran’s re-employment services, the American Job Center partners with employment services, RCSJ, workforce training and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services.

“Constructing these buildings on this campus is a wise investment that will lead to producing a skilled workforce in high demand occupations,” Gloucester County Freeholder Lyman Barnes, liaison to the Department of Education, said. “Our partnership between Rowan University, Rowan College of South Jersey and our special services school district continue to be like nothing else in the region. These partnerships set our students up for success beyond their education and now with the Economic Development Center so close to campus, we are committed to helping students reach their career goals even more.”
