New West Deptford Amazon Center Creates 200K Jobs Amid Pandemic

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — Amazon opened its new delivery station in West Deptford this week, creating more than 200,000 full-time and part-time jobs amid the coronavirus pandemic. All these jobs pay at least $15 an hour, according to Amazon.

It is also offering hundreds of other jobs for drivers for Amazon’s Delivery Service Partners and Amazon Flex drivers. The 493,000 square-foot delivery center, located at 1250 Forest Parkway, offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to build their own business as delivering Amazon packages. Amazon Flex offers independent contractors the chance to be their own boss and build their own schedule.

Packages are shipped to a delivery station from neighboring Amazon Fulfillment and Sortation Centers, loaded into delivery vehicles and delivered to customers. For more information about open positions, visit https://www.amazon.jobs/.

The opening comes at a time when people are still seeking work and the state is reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic. The New Jersey Department of Labor has had 1.35 million applicants since the pandemic began in mid-March. More than 47,000 New Jersey residents filed initial unemployment claims for the week ending July 4, a 70 percent jump from the previous week.

To celebrate the opening of its West Deptford center, Amazon donated 2,000 masks, 4,800 anti-bacterial wipes, and 1,000 pairs of gloves to the West Deptford Public School District as it prepares to reopen.
