Rowan Institutes Pass/No Credit Option Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

Rowan University is instituting a pass/no credit option for students after moving to a remote learning environment due to coronavirus.

GLASSBORO, NJ — Rowan University is instituting a pass/no credit option for most programs in the 2020 spring semester after postponing commencement due to the outbreak of new coronavirus.

Pass/no credit grading will be an option for all undergraduate and graduate students in all courses, the university announced. At the end of the semester, all faculty will submit final grades. Students will then have seven days from the day grades are posted to change the grading option to pass/no credit. This system doesn’t apply to their M.D., D.O. and Ph.D degree programs.

Before opting for pass/no credit, students should consult their advisors and faculty so they fully understand the impact on academic standing, satisfactory academic progress, graduate and professional school applications, employment opportunities, certification and licensure, athletic eligibility, and other circumstances where GPA is a consideration.

At the undergraduate level, grades of D or higher will be converted to passing grades. The deans of the colleges and schools will determine what grades should be converted at the graduate level.

Courses in which a passing grade is assigned will count as fulfillment of pre-requisites and toward degree requirements, but will not count against normal limits on the number of credits that can be earned with a passing grade.

Students who believe that withdrawal from one or more courses is the best decision still may choose to do so through the late withdrawal deadline of April 13.

The university previously announced that it was postponing the commencement ceremony until the summer. A virtual ceremony will be held in May.
