Six-Year Prison Term for Glouco Man Who Assaulted Sisters

Juan Lopez, of Woolwich, was convicted of sexually assaulting his neighbor's daughters.

A young victim of sexual assault told the court she wanted Juan Lopez “to go to jail forever” for what the Woolwich man did to her. His sentence fell far short of forever.

Lopez, 49, received a six-year state prison term for sexual assault involving the 8-year-old and her 6-year-old sister. Lopez was convicted in August 2012 for the crimes that occurred during the summer of 2010.

Known to the girls as “Uncle Juan,” Lopez reportedly exposed his penis to them and touched them sexually through their clothing. Lopez ordered the older girl not to tell anyone, according to a victim statement read in court Friday.

Lopez had faced a sentence of five to 10 years for second-degree sexual assault. He will also service a three-year sentence for child endangerment and lewdness concurrently with the sexual assault sentence.

Lopez must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he’s eligible for parole. He must register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law when he’s released.
