South Jersey MLB Slugger Makes All-Star Cut
Mike Trout, who grew up in Millville, plays in his second MLB all-star game this year.
Mike Trout will represent the American League, and his Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim team, at this year's Major League Baseball all-star game.
Trout was born in Vineland, and graduated from Millville High School, which inspired his nickname the Millville Meteor.Â
Trout's career has been on a meteoric rise since he was drafted in the 25th round by the Angels in 2009. The outfielder won the American League's Rookie of the Year in 2012, an award the Los Angeles Times wrote could "only be called the no-brainer of all no-brainers." Trout's 2012 season was highlighted by league-topping stats in stolen bases (49) and runs scored (129).
He already has 20 stolen bases this season, plus 27 doubles, 56 RBIs and 110 hits.Â
This is Trout's second trip to the MLB's all-star game—he also represented the Angels last year.
Trout, 21, gave fans a thrill in May when he became the youngest player since 1929 to hit for the cycle.Â
The MLB's 84th all-star game is July 16 at Citi Field in New York. It will be broadcast on Fox.Â
