West Deptford Baseball Team Captures Sectional Crown
West Deptford will now pursue its first state title since 2016, according to nj.com.
WEST DEPTFORD, NJ — The West Deptford High School baseball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back en route to capturing a sectional title.
RJ Mason hit a three-run homer in the top of the first inning to propel the second-seeded Eagles to a 5-3 win over No. 1 Haddonfield in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 championship gameon Friday, according to nj.com.
Jack Murphy picked up the win, fanning four batters, walking five and allowing six hits in five innings of work. At the plate, he was 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Joe Hartman was 1-for-3 with an RBI for West Deptford.

West Deptford (17-6) won its first sectional title since 2016. That year, it also won the state championship. This year, West Deptford will travel to Toms River North to play Point Pleasant Boro in a state semifinal on Monday, June 3, 4 p.m.
The winner plays the winner of the game between Pascack Hills and Madison in the state championship game on Saturday, June 8, in Hamilton.

The Eagles opened the sectional tournament with an 8-4 win over No. 15 Cinnaminson, according to nj.com. In the quarterfinals, West Deptford defeated No. 7 Barnegat, 3-1. In the semifinals, West Deptford defeated No. 6 Cedar Creek, 2-1.
