WESTFIELD, NJ — As Westfield and other Union County towns respond to car thefts, residents have continued to notify the police about suspicious people and vehicles in their neighborhoods.

Here are the recent reports:

On June 8, at 6:53 p.m., according to police, a white sedan with tinted front widows pulled in front of a residence on Ayliffe Avenue. A man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, with black shoes exited the rear seat of the vehicle and entered an unlocked BMW parked in the driveway. The suspect did not take anything, and returned back to the rear seat of the vehicle. The vehicle left the scene.

The same day, a resident of Norwood Drive observed a vehicle they believed to be suspicious. The caller said a black Mustang with black rims stopped near their residence and a male driver was staring. The vehicle remained parked there for a short time and then left the area, the caller told police. Officers responded to the area and were unable to locate the vehicle.

On June 10, around midnight, a pedestrian said he observed a dark-colored SUV traveling slowly in the area of Wychwood Road and Kimball Avenue, with hazard lights activated. The vehicle had dark tinted windows. Police looked around but didn't find anything suspicious.

That same day, a resident reported she went to Tamaques Park and placed her purse inside the trunk of her vehicle, which she locked. She then went for a walk around the park. A short time later she returned to her vehicle and headed to her home. When she got home, she realized her purse was missing. She said she was missing her leather coin purse, driver’s license, cash, two Visa credit cards, appointment planner, and miscellaneous papers. The total value of items stolen was $261.50, she said.
