Authorities Mourn K-9 Who Helped Take Thousands Of Pounds Of Drugs Off The Streets

K-9 Jaeger located suspects in burglaries, tracked and apprehended armed robbery suspects, located suspects from home invasions and more.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — The Union County Sheriff's K-9 Unit announced the death of retired K-9 Jaeger on Thursday.

Jaeger was born in Hungary on March 18, 2005. He was partnered with Sergeant Brian Howarth in January of 2007 when they both attended the Union County Sheriff's K-9 Academy.

K-9 Jaeger was a dual trained Patrol and Narcotics Detection K-9. Sgt. Howarth and K-9 Jaeger were partners until Jaeger's retirement in June of 2015.

During his eight year career with the K-9 Unit, Jaeger located suspects in burglaries, tracked and apprehended armed robbery suspects, located suspects from home invasions as well tracking down missing children.

Jaeger also made countless narcotic finds, including hidden compartments in vehicles, helped take thousands of pounds of narcotics off the streets and seized large amounts of drug monies.

After his retirement in 2015, Jaeger lived with Sgt. Howarth but still enjoyed occasional trips to K-9 training.

"Please keep K-9 Jaeger, Sergeant Howarth and the whole Union County K9 family in your thoughts and prayers. Rest In Peace K9 Jaeger," the Union County Sheriff's K-9 Unit posted on Facebook.
