Congregation Beth Israel Prepares Purim Gift Bags
Scotch Plains synagogue delivers gift bags and donates to charity for Purim holiday
On Wednesday, March 13, volunteers from the Sisterhood of Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains prepared gift bags with masks, treats and traditional hamentashen cookies to be delivered to the entire congregation before the Jewish holiday of Purim. Sixth and seventh-grade students in Congregation Beth Israel’s Religious School also participated in this Purim mitzvah (good deed) by helping to assemble the bags.
Congregation Beth Israel’s Sisterhood also donated Purim gift bags and additional pounds of hamentashen to residents of AristaCare at Cedar Oaks, a nursing home in South Plainfield, and to the senior program at the Jewish Community Center of Central NJ in Scotch Plains.
In addition, Congregation Beth Israel’s Sisterhood fulfilled the commandment on Purim to give presents to the poor by making donations on behalf of the synagogue to two non-profits that help feed the hungry: the food pantry at the Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey and Leket Israel, the National Food Bank of Israel.
