Flood Advisory Issued For Eastern Union, Essex Counties (Again)

UNION AND ESSEX COUNTIES, NJ — For the second day in a row, the National Weather Service issued a coastal flooding advisory for eastern Union and Essex Counties, this time through early Sunday morning. Additionally, rain is expected throughout the day on Sunday (see the full forecast below) .

The NWS said low-lying and coastal roads and basements could experience "minor flooding."

That advisory — which was set to expire at 1 a.m. Sunday and was also for Hudson County — said, "Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline."

The NWS warned, "Minor flooding is expected in the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Some roads and low lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor flooding."

They advised: "If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property."

Forecast For Memorial Day Weekend

Saturday Night: Rain likely, mainly after 8 pm. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 49. Northeast wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday: Rain. High near 49. Northeast wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: Rain likely before 2 am, then a chance of drizzle or light rain after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 47. North wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Memorial Day A chance of drizzle or light rain before 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
