Fundraiser for Westfield Child Who Almost Drowned In Pool Exceeds Goal Yet Again

WESTFIELD, NEW JERSEY — Less than two weeks after Linda Fazio, 6, was found unresponsive in Westfield's Memorial Pool, a GoFundMe campaign has exceeded its goal again, raising over $40k to help with her medical costs. The campaign has extended its initial goal of $5k over a dozen times. It's now past $40k and has raised $43,555 from 865 contributors in nine days.

"I really think it speaks to the power of this community that it's exceeded all expectations so significantly," wrote page organizer Jennifer Sturtz Goldstein, a friend of the family.

Linda was removed from respiratory support and able to breathe entirely on her own, according to an update by Linda's parents, Claudio and Yanella Gazio, posted on Linda's GoFundMe page. Linda remains at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

"She has gradually been able to communicate more and more to us as the time passes through quiet whispers as her throat and lungs slowly continue to get better," Claudio and Yanella Fazio wrote.

Following the moment Linda almost drowned on June 26, shet was revived with a heart beat and transported to Overlook Hospital.

A prayer service was held for Linda last Wednesday, June 29. The community has been coming together to support her.
