With the recent flurry of delays and school closings throughout the state, it’s time to ask: how many snow days does your school district have? And what happens if all of the snow days are used?

Westfield Public Schools only have three more opportunities for snow days before the district is forced to cut days from the existing calendar.

After the recently onslaught of winter weather, the school district has already used one out of the four snow days allotted on the school calendar, Communications Coordinator Lorre Korecky reports.

As the stubborn snowdrifts continue to pile up and the ice thickens on the sidewalk, it’s clear that the winter weather isn’t lightening up any time soon. So what happens if Westfield needs a fifth snow day?

“If all the snow days are used, and there needs to be another one, the Policy Committee of the Board of Education would have to make a recommendation – along with the Superintendent – as to how to proceed,” Korecky stated.

Options such as slicing off days from spring break or putting off summer vacation could impact family vacations, disrupting plans made long before the snow day.
