Long Awaited Westfield Microbrewery Expects To Open Next Month

Lions Roar Brewing says they're aiming for a January 2021 opening after passing inspections this summer.

WESTFIELD, NJ — The owners of a long awaited microbrewery in Westfield said on Instagram the day before Thanksgiving that they are aiming to open in January, and this past Monday they announced that they're hiring "Beertenders."

"We’re setting our sights on January 2021 to get these doors open," the restaurant posted on Nov. 25. "We had a very positive outcome happen on Monday that we can officially share with you soon."

Owners Tim and Corinne Grant, who have lived in Westfield for seven years, said on their website that after Tim got a home brewing kit for Father's Day a number of years ago, "heightened work stress and new parent struggles" led him to dive further into his passion for brewing.

They say they hope people will come socialize and tell their stories at the establishment.

The couple had told Patch in an interview last year that they had hoped to open in 2019, but that they would need state and federal licenses.

They posted on Instagram in August that the restaurant had passed its final building inspections, and they announced on Sept. 1 that it received a Certificate of Occupancy from the town.

As they get ready to open, they've been running pop-up shops in town, and they recently began selling 75 passes to their Membership Club for next year, which had to be purchased on site this month.

Apparently, thirsty patrons aren't the ones following the news. After the restaurant's announcement on Instagram on Nov. 25, Mayor Shelley Brindle posted an icon of clapping hands and wrote, "Can’t wait to hear more!"

The brewery will be located at 517-519 South Ave. West.
