10K Lose Power As 'Bomb Cyclone' Nor'easter Impacts NJ (UPDATED)

UPDATE: Here's what towns lost power and how the "bomb cyclone" impacted NJ – and what's next. The storm appeared to be impacting traffic.

NEW JERSEY – A nor'easter – now labeled a "bomb cyclone" – impacted New Jersey on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, bringing 30- to 50-mph winds and heavy rains to the region as commuters struggled to get home because of downed trees and accidents.

More than 10,000 were without power on Wednesday evening as the storm impacted the state; that number shrunk to 5,000 by Thursday morning (see lists below).

A bomb cyclone essentially is a low pressure system that is a strong nor'easter, one that can even resemble a small tropical storm and can build strength very quickly, according to the NWS.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook across New Jersey, saying heavy rains and gusty winds are expected through Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

A wind advisory also is in effect statewide, with gusts as strong as 50 mph possible. A thunderstorm was also still possible, along with more power outages and downed trees.
