WESTFIELD, NJ — Polls closed in Westfield at 8 p.m. for the New Jersey Primary Election races to determine which candidates would get the Democratic and Republican nominations to face off for the mayoral and four Town Council seats in November.

Because only one slate of Westfield mayor and four council candidates ran in each party's primary Tuesday, the winners were a foregone conclusion.

However political observers sometimes look to the vote tabulations to determine how much support each side has early in the race.
