Westfield: Bike And Pedestrian Plan Survey Winding Down

Now is the time to share your thoughts before the survey closes July 31.

WESTFIELD, NJ - The discussions have spanned weeks, the workshops have proved fruitful and now all that is remaining is for residents and other stakeholders is to weigh in on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

"Wouldn’t it be great if you could walk or bike safely around town? Now’s your chance to help the Town develop a plan for creating safe biking and pedestrian corridors in Westfield," Mayor Shelley Brindle said.

According to officials, the findings of this plan will be incorporated into the circulation and transportation components of the Town's Master Plan Reexamination.

Through funding from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), Westfield has initiated this effort to develop a plan to make bicycling and walking more comfortable, accessible, and safer for residents and visitors alike.

Officials noted that this is part of the "Year of the Pedestrian" in Westfield. This also includes measures like the bike patrol.

"You’ll be seeing them in Downtown Westfield on a regular basis for large public events and also during other times of peak activity," Brindle said. "These officers will be charged with enforcing parking statutes, keeping the peace, pedestrian safety, as well as interacting with members of the community. Stay tuned for info about additional initiatives to combat speeding and promote pedestrian safety throughout town."
