Westfield Doubles Down On Road Paving Projects
More than 90 roads and 18 miles of paving planned for 2019.
WESTFIELD, NJ - Westfield is poised to make a record number of road improvements this year with Tuesday night's approval of the 2019 capital budget, which includes $3.7M for the work in 2019.
Over the last nine years, the Town has paved an average of approximately four miles of roadway each year. This year, that figure will rise to more than eight total miles, 31 roads, marking an unprecedented effort in this area.
“I am a firm believer in putting residents’ tax dollars to work for them, and road improvements continues to be a top request that the Council members and I hear on a regular basis,” said Mayor Shelley Brindle. “The approval of this capital budget is the first step in making these improvements a reality to improve quality of life within Westfield.”

In addition to the municipal paving efforts, the Town also announced an agreement
with Elizabethtown Gas in which the utility will pave 9.82 miles of roadway on 59 roads that it has disrupted as part of its ongoing maintenance and repair work in various parts of Town over the course of the past 18 months.
“We’re very grateful for our continued strong partnership with Elizabethtown Gas,” Brindle said. “The road work that they’ve agreed to undertake is substantial and, notably, will mostly include curb-to-curb, full-width paving – versus the patching and partial road paving they have done in the past following completion of their work.”
