Westfield Schools To Be Remote Monday; More Coming About Tuesday

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield schools will go remote on Monday morning, with no afternoon session, the district announced Sunday. The superintendent said that families will get another announcement once they've decided about Tuesday.

"Due to the impending winter storm, all students and staff will be on remote learning on Monday, February 1, 2021 for the morning session," said the announcement. "There will be no afternoon session. We will send another alert on Monday regarding plans for Tuesday."

Around the area, the Summit schools are closed Monday, while Cranford will have morning remote classes.

More than a foot of snow predicted to hit the area over three days, starting Sunday evening around 9 p.m.

An earlier advisory from the town of Westfield said, "Winter Storm Warning in effect 7 p.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Tuesday. Heavy snow is forecasted, with total accumulations of 14-18 inches possible, and wind gusts of up to 35 MPH." It included changes related to parking, recycling, and more: See more here.

The National Weather Service says that 9-13 inches could fall just on Monday. They have issued an alert saying snow could total 16-22 inches from Sunday night through early Tuesday morning.
