25 Suffolk Beaches Closed To Bathing: Health Officials
Check out which beaches are considered unsafe for bathing before heading out on Thursday.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY - The Suffolk County Department of Health issued an advisory on Thursday against swimming at 25 beaches in the area following the recent heavy rainfall.
The advisory was put in place because of the potential that the presence of high levels of bacteria in these areas.
The beaches covered by the advisory are located in areas that are heavily influenced by stormwater runoff from the surrounding watersheds and/or adjacent tributaries.

Due to their location in an enclosed embayment, these beaches can experience limited tidal flushing.

- Baycrest Association Beach in Huntington
- Bay Hills Beach Association in Huntington
- Crescent Beach in Huntington

Health officials recommend that bathing and other water contact be suspended at these beaches for at least 24 hours after the rain has ended until the waters have been flushed by two successive tidal cycles.
Unless sampling done by the Department finds elevated bacterial numbers persisting beyond the 24-hr period, this advisory will be lifted 7 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30.
In addition, the following beaches remain closed:
- Tanner Park Beach in Copiague, closed since June 27
- Lloyd Harbor Estate Beach closed since Aug. 24
- Huntington Beach Community Association Beach closed since Aug. 27
- Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club Beach closed since Aug. 28
- Lloyd Harbor Village Park closed since Aug. 28
