Allan Schroeder, Former Navy Seebee, Passes Away

Former Babylon resident was a renowned custom home builder.

Allan Scheoder, a native Babylon Village resident who served in the United States Navy, passed away on October 15.

Schroeder was 78 years old.

Born and raised on the Great South Bay in Babylon, Schroeder picked up an adventurous lifestyle, enjoying fishing, hunting and boating.

He eventually joined the United States Navy Construction Battalion, better known as the Seebees, serving during the Korean War.

He made a name for himself after the war as an accomplished custom builder and founder of Atlanticon, Inc., a building company based out of North Carolina. He was featured in many of the nation's leading building magazines, including one article on the construction of the first solar home in Fire Island.

Schroeder is survived by his wife of 39 years, Harriet, and their children Allen, David, Jeffre, Amanda, Lucas and Jessica. His is also survived by 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a future great-grandchild on the way.

A service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Wilmington, North Carolina on October 22 at 11 a.m.
