BABYLON VILLAGE, NY — Deputy Mayor Kevin Maldowney announced he will be retiring from the Babylon Village board after serving the community for over three decades. His retirement will be effective as of Sept. 1, Mayor Ralph Scordino announced during the most recent trustee meeting last Tuesday.

Maldowney, who was first elected in 1989, held one of the longest trustee positions in Suffolk County. Over the years, he supervised many of the village recreation programs including tennis, basketball and gymnastics. He also oversaw the opening of the E Donald Conroy Golf Course on Cedar Street in the village.

"I've had a very hard time thinking this day would ever come, but after 31 years as a trustee of this wonderful village, reality has set in," Maldowney wrote in a letter. "I will be leaving with a heavy heart."
