Babylon School Budget, Trustee Election

Here's what you need to know before heading to the polls next week.

BABYLON, NY — Residents in the Babylon School District will head to the polls next week to cast their ballots for a proposed school budget and to elect school board trustees.

Polls will be open on May 18 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Babylon Junior-Senior High School East Gym.

The Board of Education is proposing a $56.4 million budget for the 2021-22 school year.

That represents a 1.46 percent spending increase over the current year and it comes with a 1.28 percent hike in the school tax levy.

Two at-large seats are up for grabs on the Babylon Board of Education. David Sonkin, Peter Wieland, Theresa Patiri and Robert Verdi will be vying for the seats left open by incumbents Tricia Pane and Ann Donaldson.
