Bellone Welcomes State NAACP

Convention examines justice issues to ensure equality

Suffolk County, NY – Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone recently welcomed visitors to Suffolk County for the 79th Annual New York State Convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Melville.

The theme of this year’s conference was “NAACP: Pursing Liberty in the Face of Injustice,” which reflects the organization’s mission to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights for all and to eliminate race-based discrimination.

Throughout the three-day convention, panels and discussions were held on a variety of issues affecting communities, such as criminal justice, civic engagement, economic development and domestic violence.
