Despite the Rain, a Winning Homecoming in Babylon

Panthers secured a spot in the playoffs with win over Center Moriches.

Working to defend its back-to-back Long Island championships, the Babylon High School varsity football team capped off this year’s season with a big win against Center Moriches during this year’s homecoming on Nov. 1.

Although the high winds and heavy rain forced the annual parade and chili cook off to be canceled, the hometown crowd still turned out to cheer for the Panthers during the big game. After a difficult first-half, the Panthers dug in deep to score seven and nineteen points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively. With a 26-19 victory, Babylon not only secured their spot in this year’s playoffs but also home field advantage for the first game.

This year’s homecoming court was honored at the start of the game, at which time Brendan McGaley and Corinne Figoski were crowned the king and queen.

The Panthers played the same Center Moriches team in the opening round of the county playoffs last weekend, coming away with a 27-6 victory. Babylon plays at top-seeded Shoreham-Wading River at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Division IV semifinals.
