BABYLON VILLAGE, NY — A Deer Park woman was arrested Sunday after police said she drove drunk in Babylon Village, hit a man on a bicycle — seriously injuring him — then fled the scene.

A 60-year-old West Babylon man was riding his bicycle in the parking lot of the baseball field on Locust Avenue when he was struck by 49-year-old Michele Delpezza at 4:40 p.m., police said.

Delpezza, who was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Trax sport utility vehicle, fled the scene then returned as a passenger in another vehicle 30 minutes later, police said.

The bicyclist was transported via ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The Chevrolet was recovered at Delpezza’s Deer Park home and impounded for a safety check, police said.

Delpezza was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury, police said. She was held in custody overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
