Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Long Island

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Long Island, warning that thunderstorms on Friday could produce heavy rain capable of flooding and strong wind gusts.

A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL APPROACH THE AREA FROM THE SOUTHWEST
TONIGHT AND THEN TRACK OVER OR NEAR THE REGION ON FRIDAY. A THREAT
FOR FLASH FLOODING EXISTS FROM TRAINING THUNDERSTORMS LATE
TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY AFTERNOON...WITH A LIMITED THREAT FOR SEVERE
WEATHER. THIS THREAT IS TIED TO THE LOCATION OF AN ASSOCIATED
WARM FRONT...WHICH HAS LOW PREDICTABILITY AT THIS POINT. PLEASE
MONITOR SUBSEQUENT FORECASTS FOR UPDATES ON THE FLASH FLOODING AND
SEVERE THREAT.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, then a chance of rain and thunderstorms after 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. South wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Friday: A chance of rain and thunderstorms, then rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 10 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 79. Northeast wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Northwest wind around 6 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71.

Sunday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82.
