Long Island Weather: Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Snow Threat

BREAKING: The latest on how much snow to expect and when it's coming.

The National Weather Service has now issued a hazardous weather outlook for Long Island as confidence increases in the region seeing some accumulating snow late Thursday night through Friday morning.

A total of 1-2 inches is expected on the island, but there is the potential for up to 4 inches of snow, the NWS says.

"This will impact the morning commute," the weather service says of Friday.

Current NWS snowfall maps indicate about a 60 percent chance of more than an inch of snow on Long Island, about a 40 percent chance of more than 2 inches and around a 10 percent chance of more than 4 inches.

A second storm system will approach the region on Saturday. The NWS says there's a 20 percent chance of light snow for the island and little to no accumulation is expected, but that could certainly change.

"Even a modest 50-mile jog northwest of model forecast, as often happens with these types of systems, could still mean a 1-3 inch accumulation for eastern Long Island," the NWS says of Saturday.
