Joseph Osman, Lifelong West Babylon Resident, Passes Away

BMC, First Class U.S. Navy Retired Joseph K. Osman, a lifelong resident of West Babylon until his retirement as a Senior Court Clerk of Suffolk County Family Court, passed away on Saturday, July 28th, 2012 in Hampton Bays, New York.

Osman was the recipient of The Purple Heart and Bronze Star, was the Commander of River Division 554 in the rivers of Vietnam in 1969. His actions were detailed in a New York Daily News article on July 31st, 1969, as he led his troops, whose boats were stocked with ammunition, through the rivers of Vietnam and helped repel two other separate attacks on his camp.

Osman is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Catherine, his seven children – Kenneth, Robert, Catherine, Kevin, Thomas, Patricia and Joseph, his sister Carol, 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Chief Osman's wake will be held at the O'Shea Funeral Home at 94 E. Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays on Tuesday, July 30th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

A Christian Mass of Burial will be held at Saint Rosalies at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1. Saint Rosalies is located at 31 E. Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays. Osman will be interred at Calverton National Cemetary in Calverton, New York.
