LI Congressman On Capitol Chaos: 'This Must Stop Now'
"It doesn't matter which side you support — violence is never the answer," newly-elected Andrew Garbarino wrote on social media.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Newly elected Long Island congressman Andrew Garbarino stated that he is safe and called on protesters to stop after they stormed the Capitol building Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
"It doesn’t matter which side you support — violence is never the answer," Garbarino tweeted. "This must stop now. Thank you to the law enforcement at the Capitol for working diligently to keep everyone safe."
Protesters stormed the Capitol to stop the certification of votes for President-elect Joe Biden. Capitol police were overwhelmed and members of Congress were evacuated.

One person was treated for a gunshot wound. CNN reported the woman was in critical condition.
Garbarino, who just arrived in Washington D.C. this week to begin his first term as congressman of the second congressional district on Long Island, wrote in another tweet that he and his staff were safe.

"Resorting to violence and disobeying law enforcement is never the answer, no matter which side of the aisle you are on," he tweeted. "This is un-American. We are a country of law and order. I'm praying for the soul of our nation."
He also thanks Capital police and law enforcement officers for keeping them safe.
"I'm praying for their safety," he wrote.
