Man Abandoned Puppy In Dumpster In Babylon: Police

Suffolk police said Thami Stafyleras, of Mineola, left a 17-week-old Pomsky named Louie in a dumpster at Captree State Park.

BABYLON, NY — A Mineola man was arrested Monday after he abandoned a puppy in a dumpster at Captree State Park in Babylon earlier this month, according to Suffolk police.

Thami Stafyleras, 44, was charged with abandonment of an animal. He will be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

A woman found the dog, a 17-week-old Pomsky named Louie, in a dumpster at the park March 15 at 5:30 p.m., police said. She brought the dog to Grady Animal Hospital in Sayville and called 911, police said.

Stafyleras was caring for the puppy while its owner, an acquaintance from Huntington Station, was away, police said.

The puppy is in good health and will be returned to his owner, police said.
