'Murph Challenge' Honors Fallen Hero: PHOTOS

BABYLON, NY — Dozens of athletes gathered at a Babylon gym last weekend to honor a fallen Long Island hero through a special fundraiser.

The event took place last Saturday at Babylon Crossfit on 158 E Main Street where about 40 athletes gathered to participate in a special workout to honor LT. Michael P. Murphy.

Murphy, a Navy SEAL from Patchogue, was killed in Afghanistan during Operation Red Wings in 2005 at the age of 29. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions.

During the challenge, Murphy's father, spoke to the gym about the legacy of his son.

The workout in his name starts with a 1 mile run, followed by 100 pullups, 200 pushups and 300 air squats with another mile run to end the workout, all while wearing a 20 pound weight vest.

The event was the annual fundraiser of the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation which has raised over $1 million since 2014.
