WalletHub recently ranked all 50 states to see which ones were the safest to spend Thanksgiving in — and New York made the top five.
NEW YORK — With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, many are asking how safe it is to have holiday celebrations this year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
WalletHub recently ranked all 50 states to see which ones are the safest to spend Thanksgiving in — and New York made the top five.
According to the list, New York is the fourth-safest state to spend the holiday this year. Vermont took the top spot, followed by Maine and New Hampshire in the second and third spots, respectively. South Dakota was named the least-safe state to spend Thanksgiving.

The website compared all 50 states using 10 metrics. Some factors that went into the rankings included examining how the state is handling the COVID-19 pandemic, positive tests and deaths per capita in the past week, as well as other indicators of general safety like the crime rate and the average number of DUI-related fatalities in November.

Health officials issued guidelines for Thanksgiving to prevent the spread of COVID-19, which includes celebrating with the people who live in your household. If you plan on inviting people who do not live in your household, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends wearing masks, keeping a distancing of 6 feet, frequent hand-washing and more.
