Obituary: Phil Pasfield, Popular LI Chef, Dies At 34

Funeral services will take place this week.

LONG ISLAND, NY - Robert Phillip “Phil” Pasfield, a co-owner and chef of a popular Long Island restaurant, died in Patchogue last Friday. He was 34.

Pasfield was born in Smithtown on January 15, 1985. He grew up in Sayville and graduated from Sayville High School in 2003.

He then attended SUNY Cobleskill and graduated with an Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts. He completed his advanced culinary training and restaurant management at the Institute of Culinary Education in Manhattan in 2008.

Pasfield did an internship at Anthos in Manhattan and in the spring of 2009 he began his professional career as line cook at Starr Boggs in Westhampton Beach.

He continued there for several seasons moving up to Chef De Cuisine. Then in January 2017, Pasfield opened The Brixton in Babylon as co-owner and executive Chef.

During the winter season when Starr Boggs was closed, Pasfield worked with local chefs and held at a variety of culinary positions. One season he worked on the island of St. Croix.

Perhaps the most notable though was the winter he was hired by a young woman, Katie Kauffman. to work in a local deli. Kauffman, who was his boss, would later become Pasfield's wife.

The two dated for several years and were married on July 15, 2016.

Pasfield's passion was cooking. He was a bright and rising star in the food industry here on Long Island. He was a dedicated husband, a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and a great friend.

Besides cooking, he enjoyed traveling, visiting with family and friends, playing video games, music and watching "Game of Thrones". He loved hiking and camping in the Adirondack Mountains, kayaking on the Great South Bay, fishing and golf.

In addition to his wife, Pasfield is survived by his parents, four siblings, eight nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Visitation for will take place on Wednesday May 1 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 and 7 p.m. 9:30 pm at the Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home on 245 Montauk Highway in West Sayville.

Funeral service will be on Thursday May 2 starting at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Ann's cemetery in Sayville.
