Ocean Parkway Bike Path Being Extended
The construction of the ten-mile extension is on schedule for a summer 2021 opening.

Babylon, NY— The Ocean Parkway shared use path is undergoing an extension from Tobay Beach in the Town of Oyster Bay to Captree State Park in Babylon but bicyclists, runners and rollerbladers will have to wait until the Summer of 2021 to use it. Construction on the extension began in October of 2019 and according to the a spokesperson from the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) the project is on track with the original estimated timeline.
Joe Morrissey, Director of Communications for the DOT told Patch "Right now, we are constructing pedestrian bridge foundations, clearing and grubbing, and performing additional needed erosion control to help stabilize the path. We are working east to west."
The popular current path runs from Cedar Creek Park in Seaford across the Great South Bay and then east along the north side of Ocean Parkway The $16 million dollar project will extend the path for ten miles east of its current end point at Tobay Beach. The plans include plantings of native beach vegetation, rest stops and informational signs.
