POLL: Should Babylon Make The Pilot Mooring Program Permanent?
The program was introduced last spring to issue guidelines for boats in the area.
BABYLON, NY — During a recent board meeting, Babylon Village trustees announced they are considering making The Mud Creek Pilot Mooring Program permanent.
The program, put in place last spring, includes guidelines for boats in the area, such having only one boat moored per boat slip and requiring boats to fit within the space within impacting the nearby boats, Newsday reports.
Other regulations include ensuring that renters live in the immediate area, not allowing any cars associated with the dock to be parked on the street, and having renters provide proof of insurance policy.

The rules within the code were changed due to some aspects of this section of the code the no longer applicable, village attorney Gerard Glass said during the meeting.
"This particular location is different than many if not all, of the existing dock spaces," he said.

The differences he cited included the fact that the location has no utilities and that all of the responsibilities of maintenance of slips falls on the renter.
Mayor Mary Adams said that she has received phone calls and letters from residents who want a Zoom meeting for residents invited to the original pilot program.
However, some residents were not happy with the regulations.
"It should be under my tax [bill] instead of adding another slip," Dylan Stephens told Newsday. "They strong-armed us."
