Special Weather Statement Issued For Long Island

The National Weather Service has issued the following special weather statement for Long Island:

The combination of warm temperatures, low daytime relative humidity, gusty winds and dry fuels will lead to an enhanced threat of brush fire spread this afternoon.

Winds will be northwest this afternoon at 10 to 20 mph with gusts 25 to 30 mph. The minimum relative humidity will range mainly between 25 and 30 percent.

The temperature hit 81 degrees at Long Island MacArthur Airport Sunday and things will remain mild Monday, with a high near 74. More seasonable temperatures are in store for the rest of the week.

“The summerlike temperatures in the Northeast over the weekend will be short-lived as much lower temperatures return for the day on Tuesday,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rossio said.

Monday- A slight chance of showers between 10am and noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Northwest wind 7 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 43. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph.

Tuesday- Sunny, with a high near 59. North wind 8 to 10 mph.

Tuesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 41. Southeast wind 7 to 11 mph.

Wednesday- A 20 percent chance of light rain after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 54. South wind 9 to 15 mph.

Wednesday Night- A chance of light rain between 8pm and midnight, then a chance of rain after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 47. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Thursday- Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 63. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday Night- Rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Cloudy, with a low around 49. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Friday- A chance of rain and thunderstorms before noon, then a chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41.
