Storm Causing Outages, Flooding In Babylon
The forecast Monday calls for heavy rain and strong winds in the area. Hundreds are currently without power.
BABYLON, NY — Heavy rain and strong winds on Monday could cause coastal flooding and power outages in several communities across Long Island — including Babylon. The forecast calls for winds up to 70 mph, showers which could last through Monday night and possible thunderstorms. In addition to flooding, the storm is expected to cause downed trees and power lines in some areas.
A coastal flood advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Village residents are advised that the area south of Montauk Highway, which is particularly at risk for flooding. Those with parked cars in that area should consider moving their vehicles to a northern location in the village. Parking is available at the municipal lots on Locust Avenue, behind Gemelli's and on S. Carll Avenue across from the library. High winds are also expected, so be sure to secure objects that may be affected by high wind.
According to PSEG Long Island, there are 5,272 outages reported across Long Island and the Rockaways as of 1:45 p.m., leaving 1.1 million customers without service. There are a total of 503 outages reported in the Town of Babylon.
